There are side pockets with metal zippers. 

The waistband is in 2x2 rib with elastane with a wide elastic inside the ribs. The tie cord is held in place in a running gait in the middle of the ribs. 
The string is finished with knots, if the string is too long you can cut the string and tie new knots.
